Meeting Families Where They Are: ClearPath Health at Bayshore Elementary's Mental Health Awareness Event · Mental Health Awareness Month
I have always believed that the most powerful thing we can do for our children is show up. Not just on the good days — but on the ordinary Thursdays, the after-school evenings, the moments when a family is just tired enough to need someone to remind them that they are not alone.
On Thursday, May 14, 2026, ClearPath Health showed up.
A School That Opened Its Doors — and Its Heart
When Bayshore Elementary School in Port St. Lucie extended an invitation to join their Mental Health Awareness Event, we did not hesitate for a single moment. Because this is exactly the kind of invitation that matters — not a formal conference, not a professional summit, but a school cafeteria filled with students, caregivers, and families who simply wanted to learn, connect, and feel seen.
From 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the cafeteria at 1661 SW Bayshore Blvd was transformed into something truly special. Tables were filled with self-care activities and emotion regulation exercises designed to give children — and the adults who love them — real, practical tools for navigating life's most difficult moments. Dinner was provided, because the school understood something important: when you want families to show up, you meet them where they are, and you make it as welcoming and easy as possible.
That kind of thoughtfulness is not lost on us. It is, in fact, exactly the philosophy we bring to our own work every single day.
Why Mental Health Awareness Month Matters — Especially in Schools
May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and while awareness is important, we believe that awareness alone is not enough. What families need is not just the knowledge that mental health matters. They need to know what to do with that knowledge. They need tools, they need resources, and they need someone to look them in the eye and tell them that seeking support is not a sign of weakness — it is one of the bravest, most loving things a parent can do for their child.
The statistics tell us that 1 in 5 children in the United States will experience a mental health challenge before the age of 18. And yet, the majority will never receive the support they need — not because it does not exist, but because stigma, fear, and lack of information stand in the way.
Events like the one at Bayshore Elementary are how we begin to change that. One conversation at a time. One family at a time. One community at a time.
Breaking Stigma, Building Bridges
At ClearPath Health, we were honored to stand alongside the other dedicated community mental health providers who came together that evening — each of us united by a shared belief that every child deserves access to mental health support, and that every caregiver deserves to feel empowered, not ashamed, when they reach out for help.
We set up our table not to lecture, but to listen. To answer questions. To hand a parent a resource and watch the tension leave their shoulders just a little. To smile at a child and let them know that talking about feelings is something strong people do.
Because here is what I know to be true: stigma does not survive in spaces filled with warmth, honesty, and community. And Bayshore Elementary created exactly that kind of space.
What Psychoeducation Really Means
You may have heard the word psychoeducation and wondered what it actually means in practice. Simply put, it is the gift of knowledge — helping individuals and families understand mental health, emotional wellness, and the tools available to support both.
At the Bayshore event, that looked like:
Teaching children age-appropriate ways to identify and express their emotions — because a child who can name what they feel is a child who can begin to manage it.
Empowering caregivers with practical strategies for supporting their children's emotional wellbeing at home — without needing a clinical degree to do it.
Connecting families with community mental health resources so that when a need arises, they already know where to turn and who to call.
Normalizing the conversation around mental health — so that in the Jones household, and the Williams household, and the Garcia household, talking about feelings becomes just as natural as talking about anything else.
A Community That Shows Up for Its Children
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Bayshore Elementary School — and especially to the dedicated staff members who poured their hearts into organizing this event. It takes vision, planning, and genuine love for families to create an evening like this, and it showed in every detail.
To the caregivers who came after a long day, who brought their children and stayed curious and asked questions — thank you. Your presence that evening was an act of love. And your children noticed.
To our fellow community partners who shared the cafeteria tables and the mission — we are proud to stand alongside you in this work.
The Conversation Does Not End Tonight
One evening is a beginning, not a finish line. The conversations started in that cafeteria on May 14th deserve to continue — at kitchen tables, in car rides home from school, in quiet moments before bedtime when a child finally finds the words for something they have been carrying.
Here is how you can keep the momentum going:
Check in with your children — not just about homework and schedules, but about how they are feeling. Make it a regular part of your family rhythm.
Normalize asking for help. Let your children hear you say out loud that it is okay — more than okay, it is wise — to reach out when things feel heavy.
Know that support is available. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, big emotions, school stress, or something you cannot quite name yet — outpatient counseling can help, and it is more accessible than you may think.
ClearPath Health Is Here for Your Family
