November Is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month: Let’s Talk About It

At ClearPath Health LLC, we believe that mental health is essential to overall well-being—and that includes the mental health of men. Every November, we take time to raise awareness about the unique challenges men face when it comes to mental health, and we stand in support of efforts to break the stigma and encourage open conversations.

Understanding the Importance

Men are often expected to be stoic, strong, and emotionally reserved. These cultural norms can make it difficult for men to seek help when they’re struggling. The statistics are sobering:

  • Men die by suicide at rates significantly higher than women.

  • Many men experience depression, anxiety, and trauma but never reach out for support.

  • Mental health issues in men often go undiagnosed or untreated due to stigma and lack of awareness.

This is why Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month is so important—it’s a time to challenge outdated beliefs, promote mental wellness, and encourage men to prioritize their emotional health.

The Movember Foundation: A Global Movement

One of the most visible and impactful campaigns during November is led by the Movember Foundation, a global charity committed to changing the face of men’s health.

A Brief History

Movember began in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia, when two friends—Travis Garone and Luke Slattery—challenged a group of men to grow moustaches for the month to raise awareness for prostate cancer. The idea quickly grew into a global movement. Today, Movember supports initiatives in:

  • Mental health and suicide prevention

  • Prostate cancer

  • Testicular cancer

With over 6 million participants worldwide, Movember has raised more than $800 million and funded over 1,300 health projects aimed at improving the lives of men.

Why November?

While June is officially recognized as Men’s Mental Health Month, November has become a powerful unofficial observance thanks to the Movember campaign and International Men’s Day on November 19. These efforts have helped normalize conversations around men’s mental health and encourage men to seek help without shame.

How You Can Support Movember

Supporting Movember is easy, impactful, and even fun. Here are some ways to get involved:

1. Grow a Mo

Grow a moustache during November to spark conversations and raise awareness. It’s the original Movember challenge and still the most iconic.

2. Move for Movember

Commit to walking or running 60 kilometers during the month—representing the 60 men lost to suicide every hour globally.

3. Host a Mo-ment

Organize a fundraiser, community event, or awareness campaign at your workplace, school, or online.

4. Donate

Support the cause directly by donating to the Movember Foundation. Every dollar helps fund life-saving research and programs.

5. Start a Conversation

Sometimes the most powerful action is simply asking someone, “How are you doing?” and really listening.
